Tutor FAQs for Introduction to Software Engineering in Summer 2020

How can I participate as a tutor?

  • There are three possibilities how you can apply to participate as a tutor:
    • based on a contract with ~14 hours per week (our preferred option)
    • a Seminar (5 ECTS)
    • a Praktikum (10 ECTS)
  • You can find the specific details on the corresponding sites: Seminar & Praktikum.
  • To apply, open one of the two sites, scroll down to "EIST Tutor Application Summer 2020" and fill out the form.

 

What are my responsibilities as a tutor in EIST?

  • You correct exercises and provide individual feedback to the students on our interactive learning platform Artemis
  • You prepare and hold 2 tutor groups.
  • You correct on average ~50 exercise submissions per week.
  • You help to organize in-class exercises during the lecture.
  • You help with organizational tasks and participate in the weekly tutor meeting.
  • At the end of the course, you help in the correction of the final exam and the repeat exam.

 

What are my additional tasks for a Seminar?

In addition to your tutor responsibilities, you are exposed to different learning theories.
You apply them in a real case study in a large class, you investigate the applied learning theories and you write a paper about your observations.
At the end of the course, you present your results in front of all other participants.

 

What are my additional tasks for a Praktikum?

In addition to your tutor responsibilities, you are involved in the development of learning tools which will be used in teaching a large class.
You investigate the applied learning theories and customize and extend learning tools to support the conduction of these classes.

 

When is the application deadline?

  • The first application period is until January 26, 2020 (contract + Seminar + Praktikum).
  • The second application period is until February 28, 2020 (contract only).

 

How much will I get paid?

  • The contract has ~14 hours per week and is handled by the Faculty of Informatics.
  • Bachelor students earn 11,50 € per hour (~700 € per month)
  • Master students earn 13,40 € per hour (~816 € per month)

 

When is the weekly tutor meeting?

  • We will find a time slot so that all tutors can participate and discuss this in the tutor kickoff meeting in the week before the lectures start (April 15, 15:00 - 18:00).
  • Please note, that the participation in the tutor kickoff meeting and in the weekly tutor meetings are mandatory.
